In order to borrow books, you need to become a member of the library. Visitor members are always welcome. There is a non-refundable lifetime membership fee of £10, which helps us to keep our collection fresh and the lights on. This fee covers the whole household.

Guille-Alles Membership

FOR ALDERNEY RESIDENTS

As an Alderney resident, you can also become a member of Guernsey’s Guille-Alles library, and access e-books and digital audiobooks through their BorrowBox subscription.

FAQs about Alderney Library membership

Alderney Library membership is £10. This covers your whole household, for life.

At present, we only accept cash payments, as we do not have a card reader. You will receive a paper receipt.

You can take books out of the library as soon as you’ve filled out a form and paid the one-off membership fee.

As well as the £10 lifetime membership fee, we charge £0.30 per book for adults. Children’s books are free.

We welcome visitors to the library! To take out books, you’ll still need to become a member – you can use your home address. If you have a holiday home in Alderney, you can also use this address.

Yes, we need an adult to sign the membership form. The £10 membership then covers the whole household, for life. There is no fee to take out books from the children’s section.

We ask that you only take out five books at a time from the Alderney Library.
