Privacy Policy

As a membership organisation, the Alderney Library gathers a limited amount of personal data from members. This data is supplied at the time of joining the Library and is retained by the Library – and may be updated – while the individual/household remains a member of the Library.

Such date relates purely to membership of the Library and includes contact name, address, telephone number(s) and email address.

The Library uses this data to:

  1. confirm membership and member details
  2. Contact members regarding events at the Library, new books, news updates regarding the Library, Library closures etc,
  3. Contact a member regarding overdue loans

This data is stored in hard copy on a card index system and on computer.

This data is never shared with any third party organisations either on or off island

As membership applies to a household, the Library does not generally collect personal data on persons under the age of 16. However, when the Library runs a summer reading challenge – which is specifically for younger readers – we may gather a very limited amount of personal data on a person under the age of 16, with the permission of a parent or appropriate adult. this data is not retained, is gathered purely for the purpose of the reading challenge and is destroyed once the challenge is completed. None of the data is shared with any third party organisation either on or off island.

If you wish to see the personal data the Library holds on you, please contact the Library, any corrections or updates will be made as soon as possible.

If you do not wish to receive communications from the Library, please let us know and we will amend our records accordingly.
